DEFINED FOR PARENTS: VAPING

There’s a lot of conflicting data surrounding vaping. Teens are surrounded by contradictory messages about vaping every day, but few really understand the facts or how it actually impacts their lives. Electronic cigarettes are battery-operated devices that are being used to simulate smoking. E-cigarettes contain harmful and potentially harmful chemicals, including:

  • Nicotine
  • Flavorings, such as Diacetyl, a chemical linked to a serious lung disease
  • Heavy metals, such as Nickel, Tin, and Lead

Youth and young adults are uniquely at risk for long-term and long-lasting health effects from exposing their developing brains to nicotine. Vaping hasn’t been around long enough for us to know how it affects the body over time. But health experts are reporting serious lung damage in people who vape, including some deaths.
